EAST MUSKINGUM SCHOOLS
SafetySafety is our number 1 priority. Bus drivers receive a minimum of 27 hours of training before they can drive a bus. Each year our drivers receive more training. Every six years, bus drivers must be recertified (More training). Our drivers have a combined total of 312 years of experience.
Students receive instruction from the bus drivers and teachers in bus safety and emergency procedures.
Each day the drivers do a pre-trip inspection of their buses. Every 1000 miles the buses are brought in for preventive maintenance. Twice a year the State Highway patrol performs inspections on each bus to assure the safest means for transporting our children.
Our buses travel approximately 2,268 miles per day on regular routes to cover the 192 square miles in our district. This adds up to about 412,500 miles per year transporting children to and from school. We provide transportation to 17 different school buildings on a daily basis.
We have 21 regular school bus drivers, two mechanics, one supervisor, and 12 substitute bus drivers who work together each day to provide safe transportation for our children. We have 29 buses to cover 21 regular routes, trips, and for use as spares when our regular buses are in for repair.
Last year our buses went on 250 athletic trips for a total of 17,186 miles. Our buses took the multi-handicap unit at John Glenn High School on 65 trips for a total of 2,277 miles. There were also 209 other trips that students went on for an additional 17,726 miles.
