John Glenn High School String Sounds
Select Strolling Strings Ensemble
String Sounds has been in existence since the 1980’s, performing across the state and nation for dinners, conventions, festivals, and many other functions. String students start their instruments in the 6th grade. During the past school year, String Sounds had 40 public performances. In the past, they have played at the National Strolling Strings Festival, the Ohio Governor’s residence, the state conference of the Ohio School Boards Association, the Batelle for Kids National Conference, Masonic functions, Rotary, American Legion, Sertoma, and many local elementary schools. String Sounds accepts 9th through 12th graders from the John Glenn High School Orchestra who are interested in expanding their music performance opportunities. Their repertoire includes a variety of musical styles, including pop, show tunes, oldies, bluegrass, and light classical. In order to prepare for the concert season, String Sounds rehearses during the summer months and finishes off the summer with an intensive camp, which helps students perfect and memorize the music in the show.
